Nearly 400,000 people were deported in fiscal year 2011, according to figures recently released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Of that number, 55 percent were criminals. The other 45 percent were not. This means that every undocumented person in this country is in danger of being detained at any time or place. The possibility of being separated from his or her family is a source of fear.
But do you know what to do if you or a family member is detained by ICE?
This is the subject of my column today, in the newspaper La Opinión.
