Obama meets with Latino leaders to discuss immigration reform

This week President Obama met with community leaders and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to reiterate his support for comprehensive immigration reform. President Obama said he has been lobbying several Republican Senators to support Senator Charles Schumer in crafting a bill. According to the President, none of the Republicans appear to be interested in working on such a proposal. President Obama urged community leaders to direct their anger at the Republican party as they are the reason comprehensive immigration reform has not been introduced in the U.S. Senate.

President Obama will give a speech on Thursday about the need for comprehensive immigration reform. There is a likelihood that he will again express his support for a bill to be introduced in the Senate and urge the Republican Party to support his efforts.

The reality is that President Obama does not have enough support from Republican and Democratic senators for a bill of this magnitude. Politicians are worried about the November elections and are afraid that the immigration issue will cost them their jobs.
