USCIS website now allows asylum seekers to view status of their cases

Good news for people who have an affirmative asylum application pending with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). They will now be able to check the status of their applications online at uscis.gov/en/statuscase.

This new feature is only for asylum applicants with a pending application with USCIS. Defensive asylum applicants whose cases are pending in immigration court will not be able to view the status of their case online.

Asylum status online
Asylum applicants without pending immigration court cases will be able to view the status of their applications on the USCIS website.

Previously, the status of a case could only be verified by contacting an asylum office in person or by phone, fax or e-mail.

According to USCIS, they had received complaints about the complexity of the process and implemented the change to make the system more efficient and increase the transparency of the process by providing updated information on each case 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

By allowing online verification of the status of affirmative asylum applications, asylum office staff will be able to devote their resources to scheduling interviews and adjudicating pending cases.
