USCIS proposes fee changes

I just participated in a conference call with Alejandro Mayorkas, Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), in which he announced that USCIS will be releasing this week proposed changes to the fees for various immigration applications.

Depending on the benefit sought, the cost of applications will increase, decrease or remain the same. Among the proposed changes in rates:

* naturalization applications - will not increase in price

* H-1B applications - increase $5

* applications to request a groom - will drop $115 to $340 (currently costing $455)

The public will have 45 days from the date of publication of the proposal to comment. After this time, USCIS will make a final decision on immigration service fees. I will keep you informed regarding decisions and outcomes of this proposal.
