The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is warning that scammers are calling immigrants to tell them there is a problem with their application or that they need more information to continue a pending immigration process. They ask for personal information and demand that you pay to fix the problem.
USCIS warns that if you receive these types of calls it is a scam.
Under no circumstances will USCIS agents call an immigrant to ask them to make a payment by mail or email.
If USCIS needs a payment, it will send the immigrant with a pending case a letter by mail with an official stamp requesting payment.
If you have questions about your immigration file, you can call the USCIS National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.
If you receive a fraudulent call or e-mail, report it to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission..
If you have any doubts and are unsure whether a suspicious email is fraudulent, please forward it to uscis.webmaster@uscis.dhs.gov.
USCIS will review suspicious emails and share them with appropriate law enforcement agencies.
