Senators introduce immigration reform bill

Senator Bob Menendez and Senator Patric Leahy, both Democrats, introduced a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the Senate on Wednesday, one day before Congress is scheduled to recess. The Senate will be in recess until November 12. This means there will be no movement or debate on the immigration issue until after the elections.

Menendez's introduction of the initiative comes a week after the Senate rejected a defense bill that included the DREAM act in an amendment.

Today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Rupert Murdoch, the businessman and owner of the Fox television network, testified before a panel of the House Judiciary Committee on Immigration that comprehensive immigration reform is critical to strengthening the nation's economy.
