Senate confirms first Latina ICE director

In a vote of 55 votes in favor and 39 againstIn the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Senate confirmed Sarah R. Saldaña to be the next director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The position has been vacant for 16 months, since former director John Morton stepped down. Saldaña will be the first Latina to be director of ICE.

Saldaña is currently the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, a position she has held since 2011.
