U Visas for 2016 sold out

For the seventh consecutive year, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approved the maximum number of 10,000 petitions for U Nonimmigrant status, known as U Visas. That means there are no more visas available for fiscal year 2016.

Although the maximum number of U Visas that can be approved during a fiscal year has been reached, USCIS will continue to review petitions for eligibility.

Any eligible petitioner who did not get a U-1 Visa because they ran out will receive a letter from USCIS advising them that they have been placed on a waiting list to receive a U Visa when they become available again. They will also be told what other options they have while they wait.

USCIS will continue to issue U Visas beginning October 1, 2016. That is the first day of fiscal year 2017, when the visas will be available again.
