Today, October 1, is the new deadline to apply for the Diversity Visa Program. Better known as the "visa lottery," the program allows qualified immigrants to obtain permanent residency in the United States.
People interested in participating in the raffle have only 30 days to do so.
The registration period is for the fiscal year 2016 lottery, which covers October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2016. To participate in the lottery, an electronic application must be submitted online at www.dvlottery.state.gov.
The deadline to submit electronic forms began today at 12:00 p.m. EDT and ends at 12:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, November 3, 2014.
Only 50,000 of these visas are drawn each year.
