No controversial change will be made to automated information system

After pressure from attorneys, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and groups representing thousands of immigrants, certain changes proposed in August to the immigration case information system will not be made. In the middle of last month, the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) had announced that it would make changes to the system to supposedly improve security. But the proposed changes sparked a wave of protests because they would have made it more difficult to access immigrant information.

The EOIR announced that after an internal review, it has decided not to implement these changes. The automated information system will continue to function as before. Callers to the toll-free telephone number 1-800-898-7180 will only be required to enter their Alien Registration Number to obtain future hearing dates, and previous or updated information about their case.
