U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced the launch of a federal initiative to educate and raise public awareness about the rights, responsibilities and importance of U.S. citizenship.
The educational campaign will use print and digital media in Spanish and radio in a variety of languages to raise awareness of the free citizenship resources USCIS offers that are available to lawful permanent residents and immigrant-serving organizations.
Nearly 7.9 million of the nearly 12.5 million permanent residents living in the United States are eligible to apply for citizenship, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The first phase of the initiative began yesterday and will last until September 5.
Citizenship study materials and other educational resources for adult immigrants, educators and organizations at the USCIS Citizenship Resource Center are available at www.uscis.gov/citizenship.
