Federal Court Upholds Partial Block of S.B. 1070

The Federal Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit today. decided maintain restrictions against the implementation of sections of S.B. 1070, including the most controversial - the one that would require law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of all persons they "suspect" to be in the country illegally.

The federal court refused to modify the order issued by Judge Susan Bolton on July 28 of last year, one day before it was to take effect. This decision means that the law cannot be implemented as desired by Governor Jan Brewer. In light of the court's decision, the Arizona governor said in a press release that her legal team will analyze whether to appeal the Court of Appeals' decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.
