Chile designated to the Visa Waiver Program

Today, March 31, 2014, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published the final rule updating the list of countries designated to participate in the Visa Waiver Program by adding Chile. On February 28, 2014, the Secretary of DHS, in consultation with the Secretary of the U.S. Department of State, had designated Chile as a country that is eligible to participate in the Visa Waiver Program.

Effective today, citizens and nationals of Chile may apply for admission to the U.S. at U.S. ports of entry as nonimmigrant visitors for business or pleasure for a period of 90 days or less without first obtaining a nonimmigrant visa, provided they are eligible for admission under applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
