President Donald J. Trump announced his intention to nominate Lee Francis Cissna as Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Cissna must be confirmed to the post before taking the reins of the agency charged with processing applications and deciding immigration cases.
Cissna is currently the Director of Immigration Policy at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). USCIS is part of DHS.
Prior to his current position, Cissna worked for USCIS in the Office of Chief Counsel. He also served as a diplomatic officer for the U.S. Department of State and worked for several private law firms.
Cissna would replace Leon Rodriguez, nominated by President Obama in 2014, who resigned from his position in January of this year.
