USCIS releases new edition of Form I-864P

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services posted on its website an updated edition of Form I-864P, Poverty Guidance.

This form is used to determine the minimum income required to sponsor immigrants in most family-based and some employment-based visa categories. The Poverty Guideline is important for completing Form I-864, commonly known as a support letter, which is required by the federal government.

The purpose of the letter of support is to demonstrate that a sponsor can provide financial support to assist the immigrant if needed and to prevent the person from becoming a public charge on the U.S. government.

The new edition is dated March 1, 2016. Previous editions should not be used.
